McMullen Architectural Systems are one of the leading companies in Northern Ireland in aluminium windows and Curtain Walling.

They needed to increase productivity, reduce lead time and improve quality.

Manufacturing Solutions worked with the company to develop a Customised Improvement Programme to meet their requirements. A combination of 5S foundation training and TPM on-the-floor Improvement activity helped improve the workflow and also realised the following benefits:

A 20% increase in productivity with the introduction of a cellular approach to manufacturing and a 50% reduction in the Work in Progress.

The production Lead time on the shop floor was also reduced by over 15% with the expectation of all these metrics improving still further as the operators get used to the single piece flow system.

The company accountant has stated that these measures will realise a monetary benefit of over £100,000 to the company over the financial year while Plant Manager, David Adamson has been delighted with the added bonus of a much easier shop floor to manage and the freeing up of over a third of the workspace.
